Camden and NW1 History

Camden is an area in the North of central London with the postcode NW1. Originally a part of Kentish Town Manor it went into development in the 18th century. It got its name from the Earl of Camden. The development got a boost with the construction of the Regent's Canal. The area was considered unfashionable into the 20th century and didn't develop a proper market until 1973.
