How To Wrap Your Christmas Gifts With Flowers

Author: Libbi Cohen

With Christmas around the corner and the seasonal sales in full swing, many of you will be doing your Christmas shopping, or are even ready to start wrapping your Christmas gifts! A nicely wrapped gift demonstrates care and thoughtfulness, showing your loved ones how much they mean to you. You may opt for a Christmas-themed wrapping paper, or a colourful ribbon, but we have a special decorative touch up our sleeves… Flowers! Why not add flowers to your Christmas wrapping this year and make your gifts look effortlessly elegant and unique.

Gift wrapping doesn’t have to be a troublesome, dreaded task - it can be easy and even fun! We have included our favourite ideas about how to incorporate flowers into your gift wrapping to make your gifts stand out this Christmas, as well as some instructions on how to do so.

First, we will start with the important bit - the instructions!

1. Choose your wrapping materials

This will consist of your wrapping paper, your ribbon and your flowers or foliage of choice. Extra tip - make sure your foliage is completely dry so that it will not dampen your other wrapping materials.

2. Wrap your gift

Wrap your gift with the wrapping paper of your choice, finished with a ribbon placed around it, tied with a bow.

3. Prepare your flowers and foliage

Before you add your foliage to your gift, you must prepare it in order to make it as aesthetic as possible. Trim your flowers and foliage to an appropriate length (this will depend on the size of your gift and how central you wish your flowers to be to your wrapping). Then, remove any excess thorns or foliage.

4. Add your flowers to your gift

Either place your flowers and foliage underneath the ribbon, securing them tightly underneath or attach them on top, using tape.

5. Final touches

Cut the ribbon to your desired length so that it looks neat. As a bonus touch, why not add metallic spray paint to your gift, to give it an extra Christmas sparkle.

Here are some of our favourite ideas for flowers you can incorporate into your Christmas gift wrapping

Traditional Red and Green with Berries

Combine red ilex or other berries with eucalyptus leaves for a traditional decorative touch of red and green - the colours of Christmas. This floral touch adds a unique spin on a traditional Christmas gift wrapping.

Romantic Roses

If you are gifting to a loved one and want to show them how much they mean to you, what better way to do so than with a classically  romantic red rose? Simply cut your rose so that you have the head and a tiny bit of its stalk, being careful to remove sharp thorns, and add it to the centre of your ribbon.

Baby’s Breath

Baby’s breath is a stunningly delicate flower, often used as a filler in flower arrangements, yet equally stunning all on its own. The best part about this flower is that it is accessible all-year round so you won’t have trouble finding it! Either add a small amount to the centre of your ribbon, or add a generous amount for a more extravagant look.

Calla Lilies

These are beautiful flowers that will make your gift wrapping look truly exquisite. Coming in a variety of colours, simply choose the one that best compliments your chosen wrapping paper.

Holly

When adding flowers and foliage to your Christmas gift, what better plant to use than holly? Everyone knows this plant to be representative of Christmas, making your gifts look extra festive. Holly can be prickly so make sure that you lie it flat on your gift, securing it carefully with tape.

Ivy

Ivy is another common plant used in bouquets as a filler, but it also looks great on its own and is incredibly festive. Either place it on top of your ribbon on its own, or add red ilex berries to make your gift look extra Christmas-like.

Pine Cones

Pine cones are a wintery, yet unique addition to your Christmas gift wrapping. These are readily available at this time of year, so you should be able to acquire enough pine cones for every gift! Simply add one or two to your wrapping, making sure to secure it well with either tape or glue. For a special touch, why not paint your pine cones, either by hand with any paint of your choice or with a spray paint for ease?

Dried Flowers and Fruits

For those who are taking their Christmas presents far and are afraid to use fresh flowers,  dried flowers and fruits are the perfect alternative. Dried flowers are also aesthetically pleasing and make an interesting change from fresh blooms. Simply pick dried orange slices and any dried flower of choice and add it to your wrapping!

Christmas is a wonderful time of year for an abundance of reasons. Not only is it a chance to spend time with family and take a break from your busy work life, but it is also an opportunity to show your loved ones how special they are to you by presenting them a thoughtful gift. This Christmas, why not add some extra care to your Christmas wrapping and demonstrate your creativity by adding flowers and foliage!
